Frequently Asked Questions

What does ‘Couture’ mean?

Couture: a common abbreviation of haute couture; refers to the creation of exclusive custom-fitted clothing sewn with extreme attention to detail. A ‘couture’ garment is made specifically for the wearer’s measurements and body stance.

How long does it take to make a bridal gown?

This entirely depends on you’re wanting but contacting me 3-6 months prior to your wedding date is necessary.

How much does it cost to get a custom wedding dress designed and made?

Pansy Couture bridal gowns start from $2000 and can be designed and made to suit your budget. For this you get a custom-fit, totally personalised, completely one-of-a-kind gown.

Fabric alone can cost anything from $200-900, again depending on what you choose. Eg: Lace work can be costly due to detailing involved, with beaded lace more costly than non-beaded. Silk is more costly than polyester fabric. Puffy tulle skirts can take metres upon metres of tulle.

On average, Pansy Couture bridal gowns take between 50 and 80 hours’ work.

Fees are charged in instalments, and quoted before the process starts so cost is completely transparent from the start.

What is the process?

The process involves first meeting up and talking through your ideas, style and mood of your required outfit, your budget, and any concerns you might have. After taking your measurements, I’ll come back to you with a design sketch and fabric options. When you are happy with the design, I’ll usually construct a ‘toile’ (a practise garment out of sheeting or similar) to get the correct fit and shape, before going ahead in the final fabric. It will generally take 4-5 fittings in total.
